Research Proposal Final Draft 

The two questions that I implemented for my research,  I have selected the problem of “How are criminals able to provide themselves with firearms in the United States? and, how can we prevent it?”. This issue interests me because the topic of gun violence is very prominent and prevalent in the United States. The estimated number of gun homicides or gun-related deaths in America was around 15549 in 2017, and 38658 for 2016. Although this high number of innocent lives are being lost or injured in America, the manufacturers of firearms are careless and do not utilize the methods of safety procedures or responsible marketing of such devices because, for most people, it is only about profit. Also, there are no federal organizations to ratify the offenses for such equipment to sell because it is by law that has given the authority to trade firearms for public usage.

 It is relevant to perform a social action towards this issue because it has made America an unsafe place to live for the present and the upcoming generations. Every day in the news or any social media platform, we can notice people getting shot because of some minor altercation or students getting caught with firearms in the backpacks instead of books. It is surprising how the American people are adapting to this risky lifestyle and not act upon it.

I have gathered four scholarly sources and three news articles that I will implement for my essay. I am trying to convene two news articles and one open web article to reference the real-life stories, statistics or any procedures that can help prevent the problem of firearms in the United States. I have discovered the seven articles in total to reference for my inquiry-based essay, but I am still researching more databases that might be more credible sources for this assignment. The four scholarly sources are the latest articles that address the problem of irresponsible gun dealers and the complication with the 2nd amendment towards the public opinions. I aspire to display both sides of the stories of why the 2nd amendment should or should not be repealed for the United States Constitution. It is essential to show the difference in arguments for this topic because sometimes “it is necessary to end one, to preserve the thousands.”(J.scott Lewis)

According to the Washington Post, on average there are 276 gun homicides and 439 gun suicides every week, which amounts to more than 1200 gun-related deaths every month mostly in the marginated communities where the violence is more prevalent. My intended audience for this topic is to those individuals or families whose lives were lost or have been a victim of this issue of irresponsible gun sales to literate them about how the firearms are distributed to the wrong hands and what procedures can they take to prevent this issue from happening again.
